Design Trend to know | Biophilic Design
What it is:
Biophilic design is an approach to architecture that seeks to connect building occupants more closely to nature (www.sageglass.com). Proponents of this design style claim it supports cognitive function, physical health, and psychological well-being.
How to Spot it:
Biophilic designed buildings incorporate things like natural lighting and ventilation, natural landscape features and other elements for creating a more productive and healthy build environment for people (www.sageglass.com).
In my observation of architecture embodying this style in Aspen designs, it translates to 3 major pillars, including, (1) homes situated to capitalize on mountain and/or river views from the entrance and living spaces, (2) floor-to-ceiling windows to allow an abundance of natural light, and (3) the use of marble stone, often from the local quarry in Marble, CO to not only embody natural elements local to the area, but also the marble aesthetic, utilized to modernize the space.
Architect Known for this style:
Lea Sisson of Lea Sisson Architects (www.leasissonarchitects.com )
