Mactober Fest Returns to Aspen

Aspen's beloved Mac and Cheese Fest returns for the second year since its 7-year hiatus and claims to be "taking it to a whole new level" this year. This lighthearted event brings the community together to close out summer with local restaurants lined up on Aspen's 'restaurant row' to go head-to-head with what their chef believes to be the best mac-and-cheese in town. From elevated classics of the dish tapping into nostalgia, to ultra-unique renditions hoping to capture the hearts of the crowd (like Cache Cache's 2023 dish pictured here, that was topped with caviar and an edible flower), only one can be crowned the winner by majority vote of the attendees.

The event is free and will be held on September 14th from 1-3pm this year. Note that it is held outside and you will be waiting in lines, so wear your sunscreen and bring an umbrella to keep cool & water to stay hydrated (or at least to cleanse your palette in between mac tastings).

Last year's winner was Hominy Southern Kitchen with a Cajun Crawfish Mac & Cheese, whereas I personally cast my vote for Steakhouse No. 316's that was topped with a candied piece of bacon. I will be out of town for this year's mac fest, so please let me know who in fact brought it to "a whole new level" if you decide to attend! Event details can be found here.
